BOSTON—Massachusetts’ state-chartered credit unions can now branch across state lines and reach into other New England states.
Among the final pieces of legislation signed by outgoing Gov. Deval Patrick was a bill that allows state-charters to expand their branches up to 100 miles from the main office outside the county. The law goes into effect Oct. 1, and limits credit unions to one application per 12-month period and requires the banking commissioner to promulgate regulations by July 1.
