Massachusetts CU Hit By Major Cybersecurity Incident; SSNs, IDs, Account Data Compromised

SHREWSBURY, Mass.—The $836-million Central One FCU has disclosed a cybersecurity breach that exposed highly sensitive personal and financial information belonging to more than 50,000 current and former members, according to filings with state attorneys general, Claim Depot reported.

The credit union—one of the largest in Central Massachusetts—reported that the incident compromised a wide range of personally identifiable information, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s-license or state-ID numbers, financial-account details, and medical and health-insurance information, according to notices filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General on Nov. 10, 2025, and with the Texas Attorney General on Nov. 12, 2025.

In total, 56,923 Massachusetts residents and 274 Texas residents were affected. The credit union has not publicly detailed how the breach occurred or who was responsible. However, the nature of the data involved places individuals at heightened risk for identity theft, medical-identity fraud, and account takeover, according to the regulatory filings, Claim Depot said.

Central One said it has begun notifying impacted individuals by mail and is advising members to remain vigilant.
