Troopers said they responded at approximately 10:50 a.m. on Feb. 21 to the credit union’s branch at 499 Pulaski Highway following a report of an alarm activation. Employees told police that Marcus McClain entered the credit union wearing a face mask and gloves and initially refused requests to remove them. He later removed the mask but kept the gloves on, approached a teller and wrote a dollar amount on a piece of paper.

When McClain would not provide identification or an account number, the teller became concerned, alerted co-workers and activated the alarm, police said. Troopers arrived while McClain was still inside the credit union and took him into custody without incident.

During a search, officers recovered a black pellet gun resembling a Colt Python revolver from McClain’s waistband. Investigators said the pellet gun was not displayed or used during the incident, McClain was not a member of the credit union, and no money was taken.

McClain was transported to Troop 2, where he was charged in connection with the attempted robbery, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $65,000 cash bond, Delaware State Police reported.
