Maryland, DC CUs Offering Relief to Anyone Affected by Key Bridge Collapse

COLUMBIA, Md.–More than 40 credit unions from across Maryland and the District of Columbia have announced various forms of relief to any members affected by the collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Maryland.

According to the Maryland/DC Credit Union Association,  the credit unions have committed to providing a range of relief options from deferments on consumer loan and mortgage payments to waiving fees.

The information is included in the State’s recently launched Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse Response Website.

The MDDCCUA said individuals affected by the bridge collapse are encouraged to contact their credit union, even if not listed. Most will respond on a case-by-case basis. Representatives will work directly with individual members, tailoring assistance to meet their specific needs and circumstances, the association added.

‘Long History of Support’

“Credit unions have a long history of supporting members during challenging times,” John Bratsakis, president/CEO of the MD|DC Credit Union Association, said in a statement. “Just as they responded during the pandemic, federal government shutdowns, and the 2008 financial crisis, credit unions stand ready to assist. As dedicated community partners, credit unions are committed to ensuring the financial well-being of their members and the communities they serve.”
