Marquis Software Breach Reaches Blaze Credit Union As Vendor Fallout Widens Across Industry

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. —The $4.5-billion Blaze Credit Union here has begun notifying members that their personal information may have been exposed in a third-party data breach at technology provider Marquis Software Solutions, the credit union said in a notice posted on its website.

According to reporting by KNSI, the breach at Texas-based Marquis — a marketing and compliance software provider serving hundreds of financial institutions — has potentially exposed personal information for more than 235,000 Blaze members.

In its member notice, Blaze said Marquis notified the credit union after an unauthorized party “potentially viewed or copied certain files on the Marquis network that contained member information.”

Blaze and Marquis coordinated on notifying affected members; if a member received a letter from Marquis, it means their data may have been involved.

Blaze is working with Marquis to provide complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to affected members. The credit union also encouraged all members to watch for suspicious account activity, be alert for phishing attempts, and regularly review credit reports as additional safeguards.

This notification follows numerous breach reports tied to the wider Marquis Software Solutions incident, which has impacted scores of banks and credit unions nationwide as they complete their investigations and file notifications with state authorities. Analysts say the breach highlights the continuing risks posed by centralized third-party service providers in financial services.
