HURON, S.D.–Darel Peterson, manager of the $13-million Huron Area Education FCU, has died. Mr. Peterson was 65.
“Dakota Credit Unions lost a great friend and credit union leader with the passing of Darel,” said Jeff Olson, president of the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas. “Darel was the long-time manager of Huron Area Education FCU, and he will be greatly missed.”
The Huron Area Education FCU office will be closed today from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. so staff may attend his service at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron.
Peterson was a long-time teacher in the Huron School System where he also coached track, basketball and football. After retiring from teaching, he began managing the credit union.
