VANCOUVER, Wash.—A man who robbed a branch of iQ credit union here and who stabbed a member while doing so said he committed the robbery in order to pay child support.
According to police, Timar Degraffe, 24, robbed the branch and then stabbed the member when the member attempted to intervene. Police quoted Degraffe as saying he “did not come into the bank with the intent to kill anyone, but did not want to go to jail.” Police said he stole approximately $600, with Degraffe saying he needed the money for child support.
Degraffe was arrested following an anonymous tip.
The member who was stabbed, Bill Uptmor, remains in the hospital in critical condition, according to local media.
