Man Who Googled ‘How to Rob a Bank’ Captured After (Non-Internet) Search

LARGO, Fla.–A man who Googled “How to Rob a Bank” apparently did not also Google “How to Get Away” after allegedly robbing a credit union.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has charged William Joe Johnson, 26, with robbing a branch of Achieva Credit Union.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Johnson allegedly admitted during an interview that he needed money, so he went to Google and searched “how to rob a bank.” His initial plan, according to the Bradenton Herald, was to rob a different bank nearby, but after walking into the branch he saw the teller was a “large male” and went to the Achieva Credit Union branch instead. Police said Johnson spent the money from the robbery on rent, bills and a drug binge.

Johnson was arrested in his room at the Express Inn.
