JACKSONVILLE, Fla.–A man accused of taking hostages during the attempted robbery of a credit union branch here has been ruled not competent for prosecution.
Nicholas Humphrey, who is facing 13 counts of kidnapping, armed robbery and auto theft for a December 2017 hostage situation at Community First Credit Union has a history of mental health issues, according to his parents, and the court expert has agreed.
Surveillance video indicates it was Humphrey who allegedly walked in the CFCU branch in northwest Jacksonville on Dec. 1, 2016. In the video, it is Humphrey who allegedly had with him a gun, a dog on a leash, and a pail of dog food. Police alleged he fired one shot into the ceiling.
The hostages – seven of whom were employees at the credit union – were freed when a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office SWAT team made entry. There were no injuries.
The court has ordered that Humphrey be placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families for treatment.
