LINCOLN, Calif.–A man charged with being a serial bank robber here is a former credit union employee let go for allegedly stealing.
According to police and the FBI, Corey Johnson, 31, of Vacaville, Calif. has been arrested in connection with a string of robberies here. Police arrested Johnson as he was leaving a branch of U.S. bank inside a Safeway grocery store after he passed a note to a teller that demanded money and claimed he had a gun.
The criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court alleges that Johnson had nearly the same routine during all four of his alleged robberies in Lincoln, Sacramento and Fairfield, Calif. Video footage shows Johnson wearing an Oakland Raiders hat, a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and Converse shoes.
According to police, all of the notes contained phrases that employees in financial institutions are trained to recognize, including, "I have a gun," "do not hit alarm," "do not be a hero" and "give me your $20s, $50s and $100s."
The criminal complaint states that Johnson previously worked at Travis Credit Union in Vacaville, Calif., until mid-December 2017, where he allegedly embezzled approximately $36,000 since September 2017 by creating additional ATM cards that were linked to Travis member accounts.
Arrested at a hotel in Dixon, Calif., police said Johnson was found with cash and several items of clothing that were described by witnesses.
