Man Sentenced In Butte Credit Union Robbery After Telling Judge He Wanted Prison

BUTTE, Mont.— A man who robbed Southwest Montana Federal Credit Union in March 2025 was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison, with five years suspended, after apologizing in Butte District Court and telling the judge he wanted the structure of prison, according to KXLF.

KXLF reported that Andrew Davis admitted to robbing the credit union on March 24, 2025, after entering the branch, handing a teller a note demanding money and leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was arrested about two hours later by the Montana Highway Patrol on the interstate, KXLF said.

Although Davis was not armed during the robbery, prosecutors argued the crime remained serious, with Deputy County Attorney Kaitlyn Lamb telling the court recent robberies in the area underscored the need to send a message that such crimes threaten community safety, according to KXLF.

During sentencing, Davis apologized for his actions and said he intended to keep changing, while District Judge Frank Joseph questioned whether Davis viewed prison as either a consequence or a fallback option, KXLF reported.
