MINT HILL, N.C. - A man has pleaded guilty here to skimming more than $70,000 from credit union members at just one ATM.
According to prosecutors, Vartolomeu Florin and another suspect attached a credit card skimmer and pinhole camera to an ATM belong to State Employee’s Credit Union. Court documents state the pair would install the devices early in the morning and remove them at night. The pair of suspects wore disguises to hide their identities.
Florin is accused of stealing more than $73,000 from hundreds of members over the course of just a few days, WSOC reported.
According to investigators, the suspects obtained nearly 150 PINs and member account numbers in just two and a half days before an SECU employee noticed the devices during a routine ATM check.
Florin has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and faces 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
