Man Caught With Stolen Cash Says He ‘Found’ It; Jury Says…

HAGERSTOWN, Md.–A man here who was caught with more than $4,000 in stolen money that he claimed he “found” and who represented himself in court has been found guilty of armed robbery.

Andre Williams was caught with $4,840 in cash stolen from Bulldog Federal Credit Union in 2014 and during a trial in Washington County Circuit Court he said he had picked up the money after another man had dropped it in the bushes outside the credit union. The jury, however, didn’t buy the argument.

"I might have got a criminal record, but I don't lie," Andre Williams told Deputy State's Attorney Joseph Michael during cross-examination. Williams represented himself and called no witnesses in his defense, and instead chose to make a statement from the stand.

Williams, 48, was also facing charges that included kidnapping, burglary, theft, false imprisonment and assault.

According to police, Williams confronted CU employee Judy Iman shortly after she arrived in the morning and put a gun to her head, forced her inside the CU and made her access a cash drawer. 911 calls from witnesses led to police arriving while Williams was still inside BFCU. Williams ran from the branch and was tackled by police. During the trial jurors also watched video of the incident from surveillance cameras inside and outside of the CU, as well as the pellet gun, gloves, mask, hat and backpack found on or near Williams at the time of the arrest.
