SPOKANE, Wash.–A man has been arrested here for attempting to use a blowtorch to cut into a credit union’s ATM—a development the CU has handled with a dose of humor.
Kirk Fisher, 29, was arrested for allegedly using the blow torch on an ATM at a Numerica Credit Union branch on E. Lyons Ave. Police said Fisher was able to cut through the ATM’s outer dressings.
But for all his alleged trouble, Fisher left without any money, court documents cited by The Spokesman show. Police said a blowtorch and other items left at the scene contributed to the swift arrest, The Spokesman reported.
Numerica has covered the machine in a black plastic bag and posted a sign that reads, “Whoops!” Someone mistook their blowtorch for their debit card. I’ll be out of service for a while.”
Both incidents were caught on camera, the credit union said.
