Man Arrested After Threatening to Bulldoze Credit Union’s Branches

DUBUQUE, Iowa–A man has been arrested here after threatening on social media to damage branches of DuTrac Community Credit Union.

According to police, Michael J. Trentz, 58, of Maquoketa, Iowa was arrested at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center on a warrant charging threat of terrorism and violation of a no-contact order.

Threat of terrorism is a class D felony in Iowa punishable by up to five years in prison if convicted, according to the Telegraph Herald.

The publication cited court documents state that Trentz made posts on social media threatening to use a bulldozer to attack DuTrac Community Credit Union locations.

Dubuque Police Department Lt. Luke Bock told the Telegraph Herald Trentz had been prohibited from visiting the credit union since 2023.

“This all started last year, and DuTrac had a no-contact order in place,” Bock said.

The Telegraph Herald further cited court documents stating a DuTrac employee signed a trespass order in October 2023 banning Trentz from all DuTrac branches due to ongoing issues originally stemming from a dispute Trentz initiated about money.

Trentz was a former member of the credit union, according to police.

Threatens to Bulldoze Branches

The Telegraph Herald reported that Trentz wrote on social media that he wanted his money and if he didn’t receive it, “I plan to purchase a used bulldozer” and that he was going to “bulldoze every Dutrac location,” documents state.

Trentz also posted to social media a warning that “collateral damage” could occur and that “all DuTrac locations will be closed for demolition today,” the report added.
