Man Accused Of Setting Two People On Fire Outside Credit Union

GASTONIA, N.C.—A Gastonia man is facing serious charges after allegedly dousing two people with gasoline and setting them on fire in a credit union parking lot, WBTV reported.

Police were called around 3 a.m. Sunday, July 20, to the State Employees’ Credit Union on Cox Road. According to authorities, Randolph Gilchrist III was in an ongoing dispute with two unhoused individuals when the attack occurred, WBTV said.

Gilchrist reportedly poured gasoline on the pair and ignited it, though the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.

He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Gilchrist was booked on a $40,000 bond and was scheduled to make his first court appearance later that day, WBTV said.
