WESTBROOK, Maine–Maine Credit Unions, as part of the Maine league’s League’s Statewide Awareness Campaign, are participating in a program that “puts the words of Maine’s future front and center,” the league said.
The league is backing Maine Public Broadcasting Network's SPEAK to ME project, which will visit college campuses, vocational schools, and high schools across Maine through April.
“SPEAK to ME centers around asking students thought-provoking questions about education, race, politics, and other important issues of our time and sharing their answers with the greater Maine Public Broadcasting Network audience,” the league said. “Participating students will enter an otherwise empty auditorium with a question to answer, such as “is it possible for one individual to make a difference?" or "are you optimistic about your future?" and a five-minute time limit. Automated recording equipment will capture responses while giving students the quiet space to be honest and thoughtful. Content gathered through SPEAK to ME will be reviewed and curated by Maine Public’s Maine Education Project team for use on-air, online and in podcast form.”
The effort targets high school and college students on important topics.
“As a 2016-2017 sponsor, the League’s Young & Free Spokester, Jake Holmes contributed financial questions to the program,” said Debra Trautman, vice president, corporate marketing, in a statement on the league’s website. “This was a new opportunity, which sends a unique and thoughtful message of caring about our youth and their voices, making it exceedingly memorable to MPBN’s statewide audience.”
