Maine League’s John Murphy Announces Retirement Date

WESTBROOK, Maine–John Murphy, who has served for 24 years as president/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent – its service subsidiary, has announced plans to retire effective June 1, 2017.

Murphy has held numerous positions during his 43-year career with the organizations and participated in the development of many products, services, and programs for credit unions.

Today, the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent are both regarded as a successful trade association and CUSO employing a combined 160 people, the MCUL said.

Murphy was appointed president/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent in July of 1992. Throughout his career, he has served on numerous industry related boards and committees including serving on the board of CUNA, where he chaired the Corporate Governance Committee. He also served on several committees of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues, where he chaired the Political Involvement & Grassroots Committee, and he served as chairman for several years of the Maine Council on Economic Education. Murphy currently services as vice-chairman of CUSO Home Lending and serves on the board of CO-OP Shared Branching, Duluth, Ga., and America's Credit Union Museum in Manchester, N.H.

"It's a true privilege to work both for and with so many great people over the years in an industry that is so important in the lives of consumers,” said Murphy.

The MCUL said it has begun a search for new CEO.
