WESTBROOK, Maine–The 23rd Annual C-U Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge, sponsored by Maine’s credit unions, set a new fundraising record.

The co-ed charity basketball tournament raised $52,650 this year, bringing the 23-year total of the Tournament to more than $425,000 raised for the Maine Children's Cancer Program.

The tournament was founded in 1994 by Jon Paradise, who is now VP-Governmental and Public Affairs for the Maine CU League. The Tournament became part of the Maine CU System when Paradise joined the League in 2000.

"What started as an event that had seven teams and raised $575, has become an event that routinely attracts between 50-60 teams and sets new records year after year,” said Paradise in a statement first published by the Maine league. “The support and participation of credit unions has been significant, and fits nicely with the 'people helping people' philosophy,"
