Maine League Endorses Governor for Re-Election

WESTBROOK, Maine–The Maine Credit Union League said it is endorsing Gov. Janet T. Mills in the upcoming race for governor.

According to the MCUL, endorsements for public office are provided by the league to candidates who meet certain criteria, including a history of credit union advocacy and a shared people helping people philosophy. Relationships candidates have with their local credit unions also are considered during the decision-making process.

The league said it does not endorse candidates based on their party affiliation.

“Governor Mills is an experienced leader who has successfully navigated our state through extraordinary times,” said Todd Mason, president/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League. “Her work to strengthen Maine’s economy and address critical issues like ending hunger are just a few reasons why she is deeply deserving of the credit union endorsement. She values our collective voice and has provided us a seat at the table when making key policy decisions. As an industry, we are fortunate that she recognizes the meaningful contributions credit unions make in the lives of their members, communities, and the State of Maine.”

Participant in Reality Fair

As CUToday.info reported here, Mills recently met with credit unions at the Maine league’s Credit Union Service Center, where numerous issues were discussed and she participated in an abbreviated version of a financial fitness fair.

“As governor, I have fought for credit unions because I know they are cornerstones of Maine communities, with their friendly and trusted employees delivering vitally important services that Maine people and small businesses rely on every day,” said Mills in a statement. “I am proud to earn their support, and I pledge to continue fighting to ensure that Maine’s credit unions are strong because, when they are strong, so are people and small businesses across Maine.”

The Maine Credit Union League said it has endorsed 91 candidates running for the Maine Legislature.
