MWCUA Concludes First-Ever Hybrid Annual Meeting

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Mountain West Credit Union Association (MWCUA) has concluded its first-ever hybrid annual meeting and convention, combining an in-person event at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess with presentations also appearing virtually on an interactive online platform. The annual business meeting was live cast to those members participating on the virtual platform.

Todd Marksberry

The MWCUA also released its annual report for 2020.

According to the association, the hybrid annual meeting and convention included more than 370 conference attendees representing 55 credit unions from across its three state region, Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming.

“The past year forced us to shift in all sorts of ways,” said Todd Marksberry, the association’s board chair and president and CEO of Canvas Credit Union in Lone Tree, Colo. “But because the association is driven by the same principles as our membership, collectively, we found ways to continue to serve our members while being mindful of safety, as well as fiscal priorities. I’m happy to say I believe that the best is yet to come.”

Clarifying the Mission

The MWCUA said it used the challenge of the past year to clarify its mission and vision to be a leader in engaged advocacy, operational resources, and professional development while protecting, promoting, and perpetuating the credit union movement in the region.

“The pandemic served as an opportunity to demonstrate value by advocating across multiple platforms on behalf of the tremendous work credit unions do to serve their members, employees, and communities,” the association stated. “The hybrid annual meeting and convention is a great example.”

Added MWCUA President and CEO Scott Earl, “Gathering together for the first time in two years is exciting. The hybrid approach we took this year allows for both in-person and online collaboration, while demonstrating value to our members as we offer a full program of speakers and sessions to help them better serve their members.”

Board Officers Announced

The MWCUA also announced it has elected officers for the coming year. Marksberry will continue to serve as chairman. Other officers include Jay Curtis, president and CEO of First Credit Union in Phoenix, as vice chair; Greg Mills, president and CEO of Aventa Credit Union in Colorado Springs, Colo., as treasurer, and  Stephanie Teubner, president and CEO of Blue FCU in Cheyenne, Wyo.,  as Secretary.
