EAST LANSING, Mich.–Michigan State University FCU has announced a deal to provide compensation to all eligible players on MSU Spartan women’s basketball team this season through name, image and likeness (NIL) contracts.
“We are pleased to partner with this group of outstanding student-athletes and believe their efforts will help grow engagement with our products and services among one of our primary target audiences,” MSUFCU president and chief executive officer April Clobes said in a released statement. “Additionally, these women contribute to the team, the MSU community and the future in a very positive way. We’re honored to have entered into a contractual agreement with this group of on-campus leaders.”
The credit union, which did not disclose the amount of the compensation to be paid the players, was already the presenting partner for the women’s basketball team as part of an athletics sponsorship agreement it reached in 2019.
Through its agreements with women’s basketball players, MSUFCU said it is recognizing the value they bring to the university and community while also providing financial assistance.
‘Opportunity to Use Our Voices’
“We are so fortunate to be part of this movement in our community,” MSU junior guard Moira Joiner said in a statement. “Not only are we thankful that MSUFCU has allowed us to represent them, but more importantly, they have given us the opportunity to use our voices. MSUFCU and their leaders are pioneers in recognizing women’s athletics. We are glad to be a part of their vision for our collective future.”
MSUFCU isn’t alone in taking advantage of the newly changed NIL rules from the NCAA.
