BATON ROUGE, La.–The state of Louisiana has signed a $600-million HUD grant agreement for recovery from 2020’s hurricanes Laura and Delta, and one government official said credit unions are among the proposed distribution points.
Pat Forbes, executive director of the Louisiana Office of Community Development, told the Louisiana Radio Network the state finally has the money to help those who were impacted by the storms.
“We’ve got lots of different programs, they’re all described in our action plan, and they’ve all been approved. One of the biggest ones of course is helping homeowners rebuild their homes, that’s called Restore Louisiana,” Forbes told LRN.
Forbes further told the Radio Network homeowners who had major or severe damage from Hurricanes Laura or Delta can fill out a survey to start the process.
“They can go to the Restore.LA.gov website and fill out a survey if they haven’t done that already,” said Forbes.
The Louisiana Radio Network reported that those small businesses that were negatively impacted by the hurricanes, Forbes said there will be funding available also. He said they will be rolled out via non-profits and credit unions.
