Louisiana Congressman Urges Governor to Priortize CU Employees For COVID-19 Vaccinations

HARAHAN, La.–Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) has sent a letter to Louisiana Gov. John Bell Edwards calling for credit unions and other financial services employees to be prioritized in COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Louisiana Credit Union League (LCUL) said it has been working with longtime lobbyist Adams & Reese to advocate for regulatory relief and flexibility for credit unions and members, especially those related to the financial ramifications due to COVID-19.

“It is critical that the financial workforce can safely get back to work,” Higgins stated in the letter. “Financial stability and the re-opening of our economy starts with ensuring that front-line workers can get a vaccine. As banks, credit union, and financial service personnel serve the public every day, their services should be recognized as a priority.”

‘Stepped up to Challenge’

Added Bob Gallman, LCUL president/CEO, “Since the beginning of the pandemic, credit unions have been following directives and recommendations from Governor Edwards, the Louisiana Department of Health and the CDC to ensure that the financial industry maintains the highest level of safety for respective employees and the 1.2 millions members in Louisiana. We are proud of our 4,000+ dedicated employees who have stepped up to this challenge and thank Representative Higgins for recognizing their financial relief efforts,”

According to the Louisiana league, Higgins reiterated his credit union support during a virtual Hike the Hill visit with more than 50 credit union professionals and volunteers around the state in conjunction with CUNA’s GAC.
