Long-Time UniWyo CEO, Knopp, Plans Retirement

Larry Knopp

LARAMIE, Wyo.–Larry Knopp, who has led UniWyo FCU here for the past 18 years, has announced his retirement. Overall, Knopp has been with the UFCU for 21 years.

“Larry Knopp’s dedication to helping UniWyo meet its full potential in improving members’ lives has been extraordinary,” said Aaron Courtney, chairman of the UniWyo board of directors.

Over the past 20 years UniWyo FCU has grown from $62 million in assets to more than $298 million, and now has more than 70 employees, over 26,000 members, and three branches. All three of the current branch buildings were opened under Knopp’s direction.

In a statement, the credit union said, “Larry has been an essential part of the Laramie community, serving on many boards, committees and organizations. Under his guidance, UniWyo has given millions of dollars in donations to the Laramie community as well. Some of the larger, more recent donations from UniWyo, have been made to the University of Wyoming for academic scholarships, financial wellness, athletics, and to the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, as well as other large donations in recent years going to the Cathedral Home for Children, Hospice of Laramie, and the Laramie High School.”

“Larry has never forgotten that our members are what makes us who we are. Making sure that we can foster those relationships is what is important.  He often says that if you take care of the little things, big things will happen,” said Vice President of Human Resources Jason Cortney.

Knopp will continue working at UniWyo through early 2017, when a new president will take over. The credit union said the selection of the new CEO will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I am happy that I had the privilege to serve so many wonderful people over the years,” said Larry Knopp. “I am confident that the board’s selection of the new president will lead UniWyo to continued success and even further heights.”
