Long-Time CU Leader Stan Abrams Announces Retirement Plans

Stan Abrams

SAN DIEGO–Stan Abrams, who has spent more than 40 years in credit unions, has announced plans to retire on March 31 of 2017.

Abrams is currently the CEO of San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union, where he has served since 2010, first as interim CEO and then officially as president/CEO on Nov. 1, 2010.  During that time he has led a strong turnaround from the effects of the recession on the credit union’s net worth, which was below that considered to be adequately capitalized and which is now 9.35%. The credit union also has $260 million in assets and nearly 17,000 members.

Abrams has more than 40 years in the credit union industry – with more than 25 years serving as a CEO of several credit unions. During his career, he spent nearly 15 years as CEO of Partners (formerly VISTA) Federal Credit Union, which serves employees of The Walt Disney Company; as chairman of Vista Financial Services, LLC; and he has also been principal of his own management consulting firm, Abrams and Associates Consulting, Inc. Early in his career, Abrams worked for the California Credit Union League, as a member of Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union’s (now SchoolsFirst FCU) senior management team, and had his first CEO opportunity at South Bay Credit Union.

Throughout his credit union career, Abrams has held numerous volunteer positions in both local and national organizations, both inside and outside of credit unions.

“I have been blessed and honored to work with so many wonderful volunteers and professional staff these many years, and to have had phenomenal mentors in Dick Johnson, Carl Bent, Bill Broxterman, John Gregoire, Laura Porter and Dr. Jim Likens,” said Abrams. “I am very grateful to our entire SD Metro Team led by our outstanding board of directors, dedicated supervisory committee, an enormously talented, hardworking and focused senior management team, a highly committed and caring staff, and to our members for their incredible loyalty, especially during challenging times.”

A search committee has been formed to identify Abrams’ successor.
