AUSTIN, Texas–After a more than 40-year career in credit unions, Greater TEXAS FCU President and CEO Tommy Seargeant has announced he will retire effective Dec. 31, 2015.
Seargeant began with the credit union as an assistant manager in 1976 and was named president/CEO in 1981. Since that time the credit union has grown from $4 million in assets to more than $550 million, and from one location to 18. In a released statement, GTFCU said that over the past 40 years its continued growth and success has been largely due to Seargeant’s leadership and vision.
GTFCU has been named one of the Austin American-Statesman’s Top Workplaces for the last three consecutive years. Seargeant credits the staff as the reason GTFCU received this award. Collectively, the credit union employees have more than 1,300 years of service.
Seargeant is a 1968 graduate of Southwest Texas State College (now Texas State University), where he received a bachelor’s in business administration. He served on active duty in the United States Army from 1968-1972, including a tour in Vietnam. He served in the Texas Army National Guard for many years, receiving numerous commendations and awards. He retired from the National Guard as a colonel on Aug. 31, 1999, after 31 years of military service.
