HENDERSON, Nev. – A father and son have been arrested and charged with robbing two credit unions here.
According to authorities, Jeffrey James, 51, and his son, the appropriately named Jessy James, 22, were arrested in a Walmart parking lot related to a robbery at a branch of Silver State Schools Credit Union on Jan. 24 and then another robbery on Feb. 16 at a branch of America’s First Credit Union.
Authorities said that money from those robberies were found on both men at the time of arrest and a search of their vehicles uncovered more evidence of their involvement in the crimes.
In each case, the suspects allegedly gave branch employees a note demanding money and brandished a gun. Authorities said surveillance video and witness descriptions helped to identify both men and their vehicles. Each has been charged with one-count of Hobbs Act Robbery and one-count of bank robbery. Trial has been scheduled for May 9, 2017.
According to court documents, Jeffrey and Jessy James stole approximately $4,000 from Silver State. Jeffrey James allegedly pointed a replica firearm at a teller’s head and demanded money. Jessy James placed a suitcase on the counter, and informed the teller that if she cooperated, she would not be shot, the DoJ stated.
It is further alleged that on Feb. 16, 2017, Jessy James stole approximately $4,207 from the America First Credit Union. He approached a teller with two large envelopes. One envelope had a demand note to the effect of “This is a robbery, not a joke” and the other envelope held a replica firearm with the barrel pointing at the bank teller through a hole in the paper, authorities are alleging. Jeffrey James waited outside of the credit union and acted as a getaway driver once Jessy James had completed the robbery, the Justice Department stated.
