MADISON, Wis.– The CUNA Lending Council presented the Phil Greer Lifetime Achievement Award to Mark Spenny, president/CEO of CEFCU in Peoria, Ill.
“Lending is the most important value credit unions provide our members, and the economic engine that drives our institutions,” said Spenny in a statement. “That’s why the work of the Lending Council is so important to the continued success of credit unions. Congratulations to the leadership of the Council, and all those attending the conference, for your commitment to credit union lending excellence. I’m honored to be considered by peers such as you as worthy of this recognition.”
The award’s namesake, Phil Greer, was SVP-loan administration for State Employees’ Credit Union and was responsible for all lending functions. In addition to his 32 years of service to the members of SECU, Greer took an active role in the credit union movement. He served for nine years as a member of the CUNA Lending Council Executive Committee, including two years as chairman. Greer served as a member of the CUNA Governmental Affairs Sub Committee for Consumer Protection and was also a past member of the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Credit Union Advisory Boards.
For Spenny, the honor was particularly gratifying because of his relationship with Greer, according to the Lending Council. “It’s especially rewarding to receive the award due to the great respect, appreciation and fond memories I have for the award’s namesake,” says Spenny. “Phil was a key contributor in the development of the council and I will always be proud of the work we did together…to bring the Council to life.”
The Phil Greer Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who exemplify the leadership, passion and commitment Greer brought to credit unions.
