League of SECUs Honors 7 People, 9 Credit Unions

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU) has rerecognized three credit union professionals of the year, three volunteers of the year, and one young CU leader, as well as also named nine individual award winning CUs.

Those honored with the Professional of the Year award represent the all-around best credit unions have to offer, the league said.

“At the league we are so proud of the outstanding talent housed in all of our member credit unions,” said Jared Ross, president of LSCU. “Credit unions in Alabama, Florida and Georgia – as well as nationally – employ intelligent and sensitive professionals dedicated to helping their community members afford life. These awards give us a way to highlight and thank those who truly went above and beyond in their service.”

Recognized with Professional of the Year Awards were:

  • Henry Armstrong, president and CEO of Auburn University Credit Union in Auburn, Ala.
  • Jan Page, president and CEO of Community South Credit Union in Chipley, Fla.
  • Stacy Tallent, president and CEO of Health Center Credit Union in Augusta, Ga.

Recognized with Volunteer of the Year awards were:

  • Gary Cannady, board member for Avadian Credit Union in Birmingham, Ala. 
  • Rohland Bryant, board member for Achieva Credit Union in Dunedin, Fla.
  • Cleve Hartley, chairman at Coosa Valley Credit Union in Rome, Ga.

Young Professional of Year

The winner of the 2019 Young Professional of the Year, which goes to employees age 40 or under who show passion, dedication and enthusiasm for the credit union movement, was Laura Massimino of Pen Air FCU.

“As Pen Air Federal Credit Union’s data landscape has changed and grown over the past few years, Massimino has been a key leader in making sure data remains reliable and clean across all sources,” the league said. “She’s also served as the president of the Northwest Florida Young Professional Group Chapter, as the Pen Air NextUp representative for Members Development Company, as the chair of Pen Air’s internal Innovation Council and the LSCU YPG Coordinating Council.”

The league noted Massimino has been recognized for her outstanding achievements before. In 2019, she was selected to crash the GAC and was named one of Pensacola’s Rising Stars.

‘Best of the Movement’

“Our member credit unions house a bevy of young talent working to bring the movement into the future,” said Ross. “Laura represents the best of the best among our fresh talent. She truly lives the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’ and we’re proud to honor her with this prestigious award.”

Separately, the LSECU has alwo recognized nine individual credit unions as Credit Unions of the Year. One winner from each of the three states served by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions—Florida, Georgia, and Alabama– was selected from three different asset-size categories.

The winners include:

Alabama

Up to $100 million asset size: Alabama River Credit Union in Monroeville, Ala.

$100 million to $500 million in asset size: Heritage South Credit Union in Sylacauga, Ala.

More than $500 million in asset size: All In Credit Union in Dothan, Ala.

Florida

Up to $100 million asset size: FLAG Credit Union in Tallahassee, Fla.

$100 million to $500 million in asset size: Miami Postal Service Credit Union in Miami, Fla. 

More than $500 million in asset size: USF Federal Credit Union in Tampa, Fla.

Georgia

Up to $100 million asset size: United Methodist Connectional Federal Credit Union in Marietta, Ga. 

$100 million to $500 million in asset size: Platinum Federal Credit Union in Duluth, Ga.

More than $500 million in asset size: Georgia United Credit Union in Duluth, Ga.
