PAHOA, Hawaii—CU Hawaii FCU has closed a branch here as an ongoing lava flow now threatens the Pahoa Marketplace in which it is located. The credit union said the branch will remain closed until notice is received from Hawaii County Civil Defense.
“Our members will still have access to electronic banking services 24 hours a day, First Hawaiian Bank ATMs are available for use surcharge-free, and our Kea’au Branch remains open to service all of our members in the Puna District,” said CUHFCU President Kurt Alicuben.
The lava flow has already forced some people from their homes and intersected a major travel route.
The credit union is publishing updates on its website, as well.
