PURCHASE, N.Y.—A joint effort between Mastercard, General Motors and IBM will allow drivers to pay for purchases from their cars without opening their wallets.
The collaboration will bring the Masterpass payment technology and Mastercard Digital Enablement Services to a new cognitive mobility platform called OnStar Go, which will be embedded across many GM vehicles next year, IT-Online reported.
Drivers will simply use credit or debit cards stored within their Masterpass digital wallet to make seamless, secure payments with Masterpass embedded within OnStar Go.
According to IT-Online, the service will allow merchants that are part of the OnStar Go merchant marketplace to not only let consumers order and pay before they arrive at the store, but help merchants learn consumers’ buying behaviors and make offers.
