ORLANDO, Fla.–A new fingerprint scanner that actually resides inside a credit or debit card has been introduced here at the Payments Summit.
The technology is from SmartMetric, Inc., which says it has developed the world’s first sub-micro miniature fingerprint scanner that sits inside the plastic cards. The goal is to improve security at the point of sale, as the card cannot be used without the cardholder swiping their finger on the plastic.
The company’s CEO said it is prepared to ship up to one-million of the cards per month.
