LSCU Signs On As Plaintiff In Equifax Suit

Patrick La Pine, LSCU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla./BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–Another state CU association has signed on as a plaintiff in the class action lawsuit against Equifax over its data breach.

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates joined with CUNA and other leagues in suing the company for costs related to the breach that put the financial data and personal information of 145 million Americans at risk.

"The decision (to join the suit) was made in the best interest of the league's 252 credit unions and more than 7.5 million credit union members in Alabama and Florida," the league said in a news release.

LSCU President/CEO Patrick La Pine added, "The extent of this breach and potential effect on credit unions and their members is unprecedented. This massive breach has the potential for negative repercussions for many years to come. The costs to credit unions will be significant."

The league sad it is encouraging credit unions to join the suit to help recover the costs of resources and damages likely to be associated with the Equifax breach.

Earlier, Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union in Daleville, Ala. became a lead plaintiff in the suit. The Illinois league announced earlier this week it is also signing on as a plaintiff.
