LSCU, CUNA Launch Website Touting Benefits of Joint Membership

WASHINGTON/TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–In the wake of bylaws changes allowing for membership in either a state trade association or CUNA—rather than the previously required dual membership—the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and CUNA have introduced a new website that stresses the benefits of belonging to both types of association.

Called CUStrong.com, the site is headlined “Local Network. National Impact,” and states that the partnership between the LSCU and CUNA provides affiliated credit unions with “visible action on the local, state and national levels.”

In March of this year CUNA-affiliated credit unions voted in favor of the so-called “choice” option effective in 2017, which gives CUs the option of joining whichever organization they wish, including both. When Pentagon FCU recently announced it was reaffiliating with CUNA it did so without affiliating with the Virginia league.

“With partner state leagues across the United States, CUNA is able to advocate on Capitol Hill for all credit unions with the best insight and access of any trade association,” the site states. “With an equipped, empowered and organized army of credit union leagues and tens of thousands of grassroots advocates, CUNA is the most influential credit union trade association in Washington. Member credit unions in Florida and Alabama gain access to state and federal decision-makers through LSCU, influencing regulations and legislation at both the national level and state level, too. Member-exclusive newsletters, action alerts and more keep credit union leaders up to date on the latest and most-impactful regulatory and legislative issues.”

The site also includes six testimonials from credit union executives extolling the benefits of belonging to both associations, and highlights PAC fundraising, including comparing amounts raised vs. NAFCU.
