OAKWOOD, Ga.–An employee of Lanier FCU here has been accused of stealing at least $40,000 from the CU and then altering records in an attempt to cover up the theft.
Police arrested Teresa Lynn Bruce, 50, on charges of first-degree forgery, ID theft and theft by taking. She has since been released, according to authorities.
Oakwood Police reported they were contacted in March of this year after irregularities were discovered by the $35-million credit union following an audit. The department was contacted in March regarding irregularities discovered after an audit. The alleged thefts took place in 2016.
“The investigation revealed an employee of the credit union, Teresa Bruce … was altering and manipulating credit union records in order to take money from the credit union,” Sgt. Todd Templeton wrote in an email.
Police said the alleged thefts happened in early 2016 but were discovered this year. The credit union and the police did not say how long it is believed the thefts were ongoing.
