LONG BEACH, Calif.—LBS Financial Credit Union, is celebrating its 80th Anniversary with a summer filled with acts of kindness, saying it is seeking to influence the community through employees’ volunteer-based actions and sponsorships.
The credit union’s 80th anniversary will take place Sept. 13th after a summer of embracing the community in its “Summer Acts of Kindness” series, with community sponsorships, beach cleanups, a pet vaccination and microchip clinic, sock donation to the Long Beach Rescue Mission and more.
“LBS Financial is proud of its years of excellence and is excited to celebrate by giving back to the community that helped it become what it is today, with over 100,000 members and over $1.1-billion in assets,” said LBS Financial President Jeffrey Napper. “We have always worked to build trust and compassion among our members, which consists of local school employees, business employees and residents. What better way to thank the people who have helped LBS Financial flourish over the last 80 years than by contributing to organizations promoting positive and inspirational causes?”
LBS Financial kicked off its Summer Acts of Kindness as one of the sponsors of the ABC Unified School District Foundation’s Fun Run/Walk & Wellness Fair, which raised over $25,000 in net proceeds to assist teachers and children in need with the resources they need to learn most effectively. With almost 1,000 5k and 2k participants, the event was the largest ABC Fun Run yet.
Through such acts as a reusable bag donation to the Food for Kids organization, the adoption of three local schools, and its sponsorship of the ABC Unified School District’s Fun Run/Walk & Wellness Fair, LBS Financial said it is thanking its original Membership. Sponsorship of a kayak trip with the Teacher’s Association of Long Beach is also scheduled.
LBS Financial sponsored a Pet Clinic at Scherer Park on July 16, in recognition of Long Beach’s long history of being pet-friendly. In the spirit of caring for local animals, LBS Financial will ensure that the first 40 dogs or cats will be able to obtain free vaccinations and microchipping. The remaining pets will receive such services at a low cost, thanks to LBS Financial’s sponsorship.
LBS Financial is also writing thank-you letters to deployed American troops, through the nonprofit A Million Thanks. There will be a station set up at the branches where Members can take a few minutes to write words of encouragement and thank our troops. The nonprofit distributes the letters while also making soldiers’ dreams come true through a donation fund.
A Coastal Cleanup with the El Dorado Nature Center has also been scheduled for September 19, underscoring LBS Financial’s commitment to the environment. As part of the statewide Coastal Cleanup, the largest coastal clean-up in California, LBS Financial will participate along with El Dorado Nature Center, the Aquarium of the Pacific, Heal the Bay and other big organizations to clean up our coast.

- July 16: Pet Clinic and Scherer Park, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- July 18: LBS Financial Beach Cleanup at Alamitos Beach, Long Beach
- July 20: Thank-You Letter Campaign to Deployed Soldiers via A Million Thanks
- July 22: Reusable Bag Donations to the Food for Kids organization
- July 29: Feeding the Homeless at the Long Beach Rescue Mission
- August 1: Park Cleanup at El Dorado Park, Long Beach
- August 21: Volunteering at Weingart Senior Center in Lakewood
- August 28: Donation to the Women Shelter of Long Beach through an Employee Donation Box
- September 10: Sock donation to LB Rescue Mission. LBS Financial is donating 480 pairs of new socks in various sizes for men and women.
- September 14: Adopt a School Week—where LBS Financial donates supplies to three local schools in Long Beach, Bellflower and Cerritos
- September 19: Coastal Cleanup with El Dorado Nature Center
