HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.—Kmart has become the latest retailer to confirm its payment card systems had been breached.
The retailer said the breach is believed to have begun in early September and was identified by its IT team on Oct. 9. It said the malware has since been removed. Kmart said in a statement that among the information compromised were debit and credit card numbers, but no other personal information. It further said there is no evidence shoppers on kmart.com had information breached. While its fortunes have faded, the company still operates more than 1,000 stores across 49 states and three U.S. territories. The news follows by less than a week a breach reported by Dairy Queen.
