MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif.– Kinecta Federal Credit Union said it has undertaken a major effort to move its data center from its headquarters to a co-located data center in Las Vegas that uses green power.
The new facility will be operated by Switch, one of only seven organizations nationwide to receive the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2019 Excellence in Green Power Use Award, the credit union said.
The new facility will hold dedicated servers for Kinecta’s exclusive use, with a redundant data center based in Reno, Nev.
“We are proud to have selected Switch for our two data centers, primary and disaster recovery, because of their great capabilities and we are especially pleased that Switch has achieved a zero-carbon footprint,” said KFCU CIO Sharon Moseley in a statement. “Keeping our planet safe for our members, their children and all future generations is also a priority for us, and Switch helps Kinecta achieve this goal.”
Moseley added Switch offers a state-of-the-art computing facility that has dual power grid supplies and is located in an area that has a lower possibility of experiencing a major disaster than its former location in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Better-Protected Systems
“The move will not only better protect Kinecta’s systems, but will also ensure that the high levels of availability of members’ banking applications are maintained, ensuring banking can happen anywhere, anytime,” Moseley said.
To date, the $4.5-billion Kinecta said more than 60 of its 100-plus business systems have been moved to Switch.
