Kevin Walrath, SVP At Northwest FCU, Passes Away

Kevin Walrath

HERNDON, Va.–Kevin Walrath, senior vice president of risk at $3.1-billion Northwest Federal Credit Union, has passed away. Mr. Walrath was 52.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague, Kevin Walrath,” said Chris McDonald, president and CEO of the credit union. “He was, first and foremost, a generous human being devoting time and resources to the NWFCU Foundation and the Financial Awareness Network, as well as a dedicated leader at the credit union.”

Walrath was a military veteran and commissioned officer who graduated from West Point and who first joined credit unions as the VP of investment services with NASA FCU in 2005. He then moved to Northwest Capital Management, LLC (NWCM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Northwest Federal Credit Union in 2006. While there, he was named among LPL Financial’s Program Managers of the Year in 2012.

In 2014 Walrath was named senior vice president at Northwest Federal Credit Union before eventually being promoted to senior vice president of risk.

The credit union said that during his career Walrath worked with both NAFCU and the Virginia CU league to lobby on behalf of credit unions, and recently met with members of Congress at the start of the 115th Congressional session.

Walrath leaves behind his wife and two children.

“He will be deeply missed by all who had the opportunity to know him,” the credit union said.
