LIHUE, Hawaii—Kauai Community FCU has changed its name. Announced during the credit union’s 64th annual membership meeting, the CU is now called Gather Federal Credit Union.
“We still have the same benefits. We may change the name, but our values are still the same — when we gather, we grow,” said Gather FCU Board President Walton Hong.
Hong told GardenIsland.com “the acronym KCFCU was difficult to say, and ‘Kauai’ was a source of confusion. People were confusing us with businesses and other financial institutions with similar names.”
Gather Federal Credit Union symbolizes the past, present, and prepares the credit union for the future, the credit union said, noting it was founded in 1954 by 10 pineapple farmers who pitched in the original $595 to get the CU chartered. Today Gather FCU has more than $500 million in assets and 35,000 members. The CU’s new logo represents the pineapple top as a symbol of growth and prosperity.
“Gather celebrates our members,” said CEO Tess Shimabukuro. “From the time, the 10 farmers gathered to form the credit union, as more people gathered, the credit union grew to where we are, and the more we gather, we grow.”
