KCUA Creates CUlead

WICHITA, Kan.—Saying it was driven by credit union feedback and the need to develop future credit union leaders, the Kansas Credit Union Association has created the “CUlead: Leadership Excellence and Development” program.

The KCUA said CUlead is a comprehensive, one-year, hands-on, interactive program for “Kansas credit union staff who possess leadership potential and are ready to further develop their leadership skills.”

To provide an intimate class setting to enhance leadership skills, class size was limited to 15 applicants, made up of the following: Corey Winter of Meritrust Credit Union; Sharon Thornhill of Bell Credit Union; Mary Wehner of Central Star Credit Union; Chris Correll of Emporia State FCU; Christy Bales of Cessna Employees CU; Kimberly Beltran of Mid American CU; Erik Breckenridge of Meritrust Credit Union; Preston Ford of Educational Credit Union; Rob Detrick of Credit Union of America; David Linderman of Quest Credit Union; Michael Griffin of Educational Credit Union; Geoff Strole of Truity Credit Union; Donna Miller of Heartland Credit Union; Kelly Martin of TECU Credit Union, and Jeremy Stauffacher Heartland Credit Union.

“Top-notch employees are hard to find, and sometimes they are even harder to keep,” said Gina Evans, AVP of Education and Councils and CUlead Coordinator. “With statistics showing that many credit union executives are nearing retirement age, it’s more important than ever for credit unions to prepare for the future and develop staff to fill these top roles.”

The KCUA said CUlead is open to any credit union staff who shows leadership potential and is ready to enhance their leadership skills. The comprehensive curriculum, created specifically for future credit union leaders, covers everything from communication skills to regulator insights. “The interactive sessions build and strengthen leadership and professional skills while group projects and field trips help students make connections that will last throughout their career.”

The first CUlead session will take place Feb. 9-10, with other sessions scheduled for April, June, October and December.
