AUSTIN, Texas–University Federal Credit Unions said it plans to donate $1 million to the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas to fund scholarships for medical students and further the school's mission to extend the reach of healthcare initiatives throughout the region.
University Federal’s gift will be divided between Dell Med's Department of Population Health, which is looking at various ways to improve healthcare delivery in Travis County, and three four-year scholarships for medical students starting school in the class of 2017-2018, with a preference given to students who commit to remaining in Central Texas to practice medicine after graduation, according to the medical school. Administered through the Texas Exes alumni group, the scholarships will also be aimed at students from groups traditionally underrepresented in medical careers, the medical school said in a statement.
UFCU CEO Tony Budet said supporting the school's health initiatives "align with our focus of enhancing quality of life for our members and the broader community."
