Jeanne D’Arc Introduces New Youth Education and Financial Wellness Suite

LOWELL, Mass.–Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union has introduced new youth education and financial wellness programs with a suite of products called “StartStrong.”

According to the credit union, the StartStrong Savings, StartStrong Checking, and StartStrong Goal accounts provide young adults ages 13-18 with competitive rates, reduced fees, complimentary perks, and tools to “help them build healthy money habits that will follow them into adulthood.”

The Products

Jeanne D’Arc said the products include:

  • StartStrong Savings Accounts, which offers a high interest rate on the first $500 in the account.
  • StartStrong Checking Accounts, which feature optional Visa debit cards, online and mobile banking, overdraft protection, and more.
  • StartStrong Goal Accounts, which are interest-bearing accounts that allow young adult members to plan and set specific long-term and short-term savings goals.

The $2.1-billion Jeanne D’Arc said all of the StartStrong Accounts include free access to Money Compass, a personal finance management tool, and Member Perks, a program offering exclusive discounts and services.

“With no monthly fees or minimum balance requirements, the StartStrong Program is an excellent way for teenagers to further develop their savings and money management skills as they become more independent young adults,” Jeanne D’Arc CU said.

Rollout in High School Branches

As part of the launch, Jeanne D’Arc reported that three high school branches engaged students at Dracut High School, Lowell High School, and Nashua High School South with a financial scavenger hunt. Students were challenged to answer financial trivia questions placed around their school, and the class with the highest participation rate won a donation to their student activities fund, the CU said.

Meeting Needs

“We continuously look to offer products and services that meet the needs of our members,” President and CEO Mark S. Cochran said in a statement. “We surveyed potential members in this age group about the features and benefits they were looking for and from that feedback, the StartStrong product suite was developed.”
