It All Adds Up As One Group Marks Its 25th Anniversary

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.–The Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The founder of the ACUIA, Terry McEachern, chief internal auditor with Royal Credit Union here, said the group was founded when auditors from six Wisconsin credit unions and two Minnesota credit unions gathered in Eau Claire in May 1989, elected officers, and formed the Association. A year later, ACUIA was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of Wisconsin.

The first annual ACUIA Conference was held in Bloomington, Minn., in 1991 with 75 participants. Today, ACUIA has more than 600 members, and more than 200 attended the 25th Annual Conference and One-Day Seminar in June in Boston.

“This is incredible and has benefitted more auditors over the years than I’d ever imagined it would.  It’s a dream come true,” said McEachern.

Royal Credit Union established the Terry McEachern Internal Auditor of the Year award in 1995.  The award has been presented annually to an internal auditor who has made a significant contribution to the internal audit profession and to the credit union industry.
