DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Credit Union League has announced that Murray Williams will succeed Pat Jury as chief executive officer on July 1, 2018.

As CUToday.info reported here, the league had earlier announced Jury would be moving into a consulting role at mid-year.

Williams currently serves as chief operating officer (COO) for ICUL, as well as for ICUL's holding company, Affiliates Management Company (AMC). He has been with the league for 22 years and has served as its COO since 2011.

“The ICUL board of directors enthusiastically endorses Murray as our next CEO,” said Brent Helin, ICUL board president and CEO of Des Moines Metro Credit Union, in a statement. “Murray has demonstrated a fierce commitment to advancing the interests of Iowa’s credit unions and providing exceptional ICUL member value. His experience has provided him a unique vision and perspective that will be invaluable to credit unions as they navigate a rapidly changing financial services landscape. I look forward to seeing Murray continue the trajectory of success that Pat Jury has set for our industry.”

According to the league, during his tenure Williams has succeeded in his ability to achieve strategic results and operating excellence across the organization, while continuing to advance the mission of ICUL and AMC. He has helped maximize the value delivered to member credit unions, reducing dues for 17 consecutive years, totaling more than $25 million in value back to Iowa credit unions over that time. He also has been integral to the successful development and growth of several AMC operating companies. Since 2011, the league added that Williams has helped grow ICUL capital holdings from $20 million to $115 million, while maintaining 99% credit union affiliation through innovative service offerings and effective industry advocacy.

“The future for credit unions is tremendously bright. This legislative session, Iowans clearly stated their desire for financial choice. Iowa credit unions provide that needed alternative to for-profit banks,” Williams said in a statement. “Like credit unions, our mission at ICUL is to improve the financial lives of consumers and we are committed to delivering on that promise for generations to come.”

Williams acknowledged the tremendous leadership of current CEO Pat Jury. “Pat has been an exceedingly gracious boss, mentor and friend over the past 20 years. He is a trailblazer in the credit union industry, not only in Iowa, but nationally. I am honored to be named as his successor and look forward to playing a larger role in the future of Iowa’s credit unions.”

Williams has previously served on the CUNA Strategic Services Board and is active in the International Executive Volunteer Corps for the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU).
