Investigation of Alleged Embezzlement At CU Continues

WHEELING, W.Va.—An executive at the $5.7-million Ohio County Public Schools Federal Credit Union has reportedly stepped down as federal agents continue an investigation into a suspected embezzlement at the CU.

The Wheeling Intelligencer reported the departure of Kathleen Gramlich from OCPSFCU, citing William Wilmoth, an attorney with the Steptoe and Johnson law firm here, as the source.

“I do have the impression something is going to drop with this soon,” Wilmoth was quoted as saying.

No charges have been filed in the case and Gramlich’s departure at this point has not been tied to any illegalities.

As CUToday.info previously reported, the suspected embezzlement first came to light in March after it was confirmed by an auditor from the West Virginia Credit Union League. The credit union’s board of directors then hired Steptoe and Johnson to conduct an initial investigation before federal officials became involved.

The amount of funds suspected as missing and the person believed to be responsible have not been released by the credit union. But Wilmoth told the Intelligencer that an assistant manager uncovered discrepancies in the CU’s operating checking account and alerted the board, which in turn contacted the state league.
