RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.–Credit unions around the world will be celebrating International Credit Union Day today in numerous ways both in their own offices and in broader community and national efforts.
Among those efforts is Shop For Miracles, the one-day Credit Unions for Kids fundraiser that benefits Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Participating credit unions typically pledge to donate 25 cents—although amounts can vary—per debit/credit cardholder to their local CMN hospital.
The campaign has been tweaked this year so that it does not “create any implications with commercial co-venture (CCV) laws…We are hopeful this update will make Shop for Miracles even easier for our credit unions to implement!” organizers said.
Meanwhile, throughout October, every time a member posts why they love their credit union using #ShopForMiracleson Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, CO-OP Financial Services is donating $1, up to $100,000 to CMN Hospitals.
This year’s ICU Day theme is “The Authentic Difference,” a description of credit unions' cooperative structure and principles.
International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October since 1948.
