WASHINGTON–Credit unions are by no means alone on Capitol Hill when it comes to wanting something from—or attempting to stop something from happening—in Congress.
And that’s only become more true in a Congress in which multi-trillion-dollar stimulus and relief packages are being passed by or considered during the coronavirus pandemic.
Brad Thaler, VP-legislative affairs with NAFCU, said all the extra attention sought by other groups has note hurt NAFCU’s ability to be heard on the Hill.
“We are still engaging,” said Thaler, acknowledging there remains plenty of interest around what any Phase IV stimulus might include. “It’s not just financial services industry-wide, as during the last recession; this is economy-wide. But people on the Hill recognize the role of credit unions. We have good relationships and we are being heard.”
