WASHINGTON—Havng just scored a victory on one bill, credit unions are now watching numerous other hearings and pieces of legislation Congress, in addition to an NCUA board meeting later this week.
As CUToday.info has reported separately, a conference committee has removed language in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act that would have given banks the same access to military bases as credit unions currently have. That issue had been a priority of the credit union trade groups.
But beyond the NDAA, Congress is in session working to finish various bills before the end of the year, including a dozen spending bills before current government funding expires Dec. 20.
In addition, the NCUA board and Federal Open Market Committee this week hold their last meetings of the year.
CUNA Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer Eli Joseph said the trade association will be watching for that final language, as well as paying close attention to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs hearing on the oversight of securities and Exchange Commission, as well as tracking HR 1731, the Cybersecurity Disclosure Act of 2019.
